No Nonsense Reviews

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm Review

By  |

As you may have seen in my ‘what’s in my bag’ post I do actually own a few Burt’s Bees lip balms. I didn’t buy them I was given them for Christmas and luckily had always wanted to try them out.

Burt’s Bees always seemed to pop up at the side of my amazon and I always wondered what all the hype was about.

I also know they are cruelty free despite some of their products containing some animal products such as honey making them non vegan, despite that they do however make some vegan products.

Burt’s Bees is actually  owned by a bigger company called ‘Clorox’ who do, if absolutely necessary test on animals. Burt’s Bees however emphasize throughout that they never have and never will test on animals, making them pretty awesome.

It does suck that a big company with bad values has bought them but, Burt’s Bees make amazing products for non vegans and they don’t support testing on animals.

First impressions….

At first glance I was blown away. I had always wanted to try these lip balms and now I had five ones, all to myself. The first thing I obviously did was rip off every single lid and begin to sniff away.

I was at my boyfriends house at the time so I did have to contain my thoughts and emotions a little but we are here now so, I can tell you what I thought of each individual product, even though I suck at explaining smells, we can try.

The lip balms came in this handy tube, that I actually can’t shut again. I can’t seem to line them up properly inside but, that’s not important to this review!

The tub doesn’t explain much of what is going on inside which makes it even more intriguing to open. All I knew was that there was 5 different lip balms in there and I needed them babies out.

The tube explained that they are all 100 % natural. Something I love. That way you know there’s no added rubbish, it’s just 100 % of goodness.

Vanilla Bean

Burt's Bees Lip Balm Review

(Don’t ask why there’s red on mine, I seem to have applied it after I applied some lipstick the other night…)

The vanilla bean is obviously going to be my favorite because well..it’s vanilla.

It’s not an overwhelming vanilla smell which is nice, because some people hate the smell of strong, sickly vanilla (not me). It’s just the right amount of vanilla mixed with all sorts of moisturizing ingredients.

It makes your lips super smooth like seriously smooth. I just sit rubbing mine together because they feel so great. It’s jam packed with  natural vanilla bean extract, shea butter, vitamin e and natural conditioning beeswax. Amazing for cracked or sore lips.

Replenishing with Pomegranate Oil

Burt's Bees Lip Balm Review

The replenishing Burt’s bees is actually on par, smell wise with the vanilla bean. It’s not super fruity it’s not overwhelming it’s just nice and smells how you think it should.

The lip balm is infused with pomegranate oil which you may think makes your lips greasy, oh no, it’s one of the creamiest lip balms I’ve ever put on my lips, it’s amazing.

Also as you can see from the photo above the lip balm is a rose color which ever so slightly tints your lips, giving them a natural rosy color.

Wild Cherry

Burt's Bees Lip Balm Review

I must confess I am not the biggest cherry fan. I never opt for cherry scented anything really..I find it too sickly or too sweet, it just doesn’t do much for me.

So I was hesitant when it came to trying the Burt’s Bees Cherry Lip balm. Like all of the others it contains natural cherry extract and conditioning honey so, it is amazing in that sense but, the smell well…

I actually like it! It is cherry smelling , it’s sweet and in some strange way it actually reminds me of calpol. If you never had calpol as a child, its like a nice tasting medicine for children.

I say that in the nicest way because I actually really like smell and because it contains some tartness you don’t sit licking your lips, rubbing it all off. It’s also a lot less sweeter than your normal synthetic cherry smell because it is all natural, overall not my favorite but a lovely addition to my Burt’s bees family and you love cherry it’s for you.

Beeswax Lip Balm

Burt's Bees Lip Balm Review

I know what you’re thinking if you have never smelt this lip balm before ‘what the heck is this going to smell like?’ well, actually good.

I wasn’t sure either having never smelt it before and I even hesitated thinking it would be vile. It was actually amazing. It contains  coconut oil, sunflower oil, vitamin E and peppermint oil, making it tingle when applied to your lips.

This particular lip balm actually locks in moisture so its best to use it on undamaged lips.

I adore the smell of it because it is ‘pepperminty‘ and I just think it makes a difference when meeting up with people or even having a meeting, because you can smell yourself smelling good (does that make sense?).

Finally…

Honey Lip Balm

Burt's Bees Lip Balm Review

This honey lip balm contains natural golden honey and vitamin E along with loads of other delicious ingredients the only problem was…I didn’t like it.

I know i know! how ungrateful but, I just don’t like the smell. The lip balm is lovely, it’s nourishing and feels amazing but I already don’t like the smell of honey so, spreading 100% natural honey on my lips just didn’t feel nice.

Obviously Burt’s Bees are a Bee company so of course they were going to have a honey flavor I just didn’t neccesarily like it and if I find a friend or family member who does they can have happily have it because it is such a lovely product, especially if you like honey.

Burt's Bees Lip Balm Review

Overall this was such a lovely present. I had always wanted to try Burt’s Bees and their lip balms and now I have. 4 out of 5 isn’t bad! Especially considering I didn’t start off great not liking cherry.

They’re a really lovely product and are actually amazing at their job, which is to care and to nourish your lips especially during these winter months.

Each balm is made up of 100% natural ingredients which I love and you can also recycle the packaging.
