What Makeup To Use At The Gym

Of course wearing makeup at the gym isn’t recommended. Experts say the oils in makeup clog pores thus creating breakouts and all other kinds of problems.

The thing is, sometimes if we’re busy or fitting actually going to the gym in to our busy schedules, there is no time to take makeup off and then re-apply after, life just isn’t that fair sometimes.

However, if you know what makeup to wear and the few essentials to keep in your bag, you can still work out like a champ and still look amazing after. Talk about wonder woman (or man!).

That’s why I’ve created this handy guide on what makeup to use at the gym so that we don’t end up covered in spots, crazy ‘gloopy’ lines and mascara smeared everywhere.

Cleanse –

The best thing to do before applying makeup is make sure your face is super clean, free from dirt and makeup residue. Because if we have a clean canvas to work on, the result is going to be better.

Primer –

If you don’t know a primer basically works like a paint primer. It helps your foundation ‘stick’ and stay all day long. It’s a good idea to wear primer when you know you’re going to be working out but, I just know my skin wouldn’t be able to handle it.

By that I mean I just know if I applied my primer and then did a full workout I know I would have a lot of breakouts so, if you’re prone to breakouts like me, skip the primer for your gym days! But if you’re not then I recommend any primer, I like this one.

Foundation –

Foundation is the tricky part. I would always always always recommend using an oil free foundation, that way you know your pores won’t be as blocked and it will work with your skin better. Some of them also contain ingredients that can help fight acne, like this one.

If you don’t want a heavy duty foundation try using a tinted moisturizer if it’s just a little bit of coverage you are after. It will also look a lot more natural when working up a sweat, try this one!

 

If neither of them work for you, you can try either a tinted sunscreen. I love double duty products and this one is perfect. If you’re working out outside, a tinted sunscreen  is perfect as it provides a little coverage and a lot of protection.

 

Mascara –

Always go for waterproof. The worst thing could be mid workout, you rub your eye and next thing you know, you have two great big streaks of black running down your face and you’re oblivious.

Waterproof mascara won’t sweat or run, which is also perfect if you’re heading out somewhere straight after!

Eyeliner –

 

If you do wear eye liner to the gym try a waterproof one. They can take some getting used to but, they are worth it in the end.

You could also opt for a brown eye liner rather than a black as it’s more natural and less subtle for a workout!

Concealer –

If it’s not coverage you’re looking for but a way to cover some blemishes try using just a concealer. A great tip would be to use a concealer that like the foundation I mentioned above. One that has blemish fighting properties. That way whilst you work out so, can they!

Powder –

I wouldn’t go for any sorts of powder. By this I mean if you usually finish with a translucent or a setting powder, I wouldn’t do it. As you sweat it will turn in to a thick, wet mess. It won’t look pretty and you can easily apply it straight after your workout.

 

Lips –

 

Never go for anything glossy or sticky.  Your hair will get caught in it, you will be forever pulling strands of your pony from it and with the lipstick one wrong move with your hand and it will be spread all over your face.

Try using a lip stain. It will last all day and it won’t smudge whilst you work up a sweat. I love this lip stain.

Setting Spray –

 

I would definitely recommend using some sort of a setting spray.Setting spray holds your makeup, It doesn’t have to be expensive you can get it super cheap.

Hair –

 

I would take some dry shampoo with me to the gym. If you’re anything like me after a workout then your hair still looks a little greasy even hours after, just spritz at the roots with your dry shampoo after your workout and you will look just as you did when you walked in.

I always try and carry a mini dry shampoo with me as it takes up so much less room and you only need a little bit each time you use it.

 

 

What Makeup To Use At The Gym

 

 

These essentials below are just what I like to take to the gym with me. They also might give you some inspiration for your gym bag if it’s looking a little glum.

 

Towel –

 

I have to carry a small little towel with me to the gym. I take it with me on all the equipment so I can just dab at my face and neck after each workout. I hate having sweat drip in to my eyes so, if you have a handy little towel you can just make sure that’s not a thing!

 

Makeup  Wipes –

 

Sometimes you might want to or need to do your makeup after your workout. I like to keep a little packet of makeup wipes in my bag just to get rid of any mess left on my face.

 

 

Miniatures –

I am a lover of miniature shampoos and conditioners so, instead of carrying large bottles in my bag I like to carry a few miniatures around with me. I don’t often shower at the gym when i’m there and if i’m at home I have all of my normal wash stuff so, I keep a small bag with some mini things in just incase!

 

Deodrant Wipes –

I always carry my normal deodrant with me but, I recently discovered these deodrant wipes. I had never ever heard of them  before and they have changed my life.

After a work out or even a long cary journey I take this out of my purse and just wipe them around my underarms. They instantly refresh you and work as a deodrant. They are so handy so I definitely recommend these for your bag!
